The Japanese Black Pine ‘Senjumaru’ (Pinus thunbergii ‘Senjumaru’) is a remarkable grafted cultivar developed at Ryoshoen, created by grafting a Kotobuki scion onto Japanese black pine stock. The resulting genetic mutation produces clusters of buds and exceptionally compact growth — making it ideal for small and refined bonsai development.
Named by AYADA Tadashi, Senjumaru inherits the prized short needles of Kotobuki while also exhibiting faster growth and improved branching. It is rapidly becoming the new standard for black pine bonsai in Japan, celebrated for its superior characteristics and exceptional performance in traditional bonsai cultivation.
