Island Ornamentals began with Brock's lifelong fascination with plants and the art of bonsai. When he discovered that many sought-after Japanese cultivars were hard to find in Canada, he set out to learn how to grow them himself—and to make them available to others who shared his passion.

Today, the nursery is proudly family-run. Brock works alongside his two daughters, teaching them the craft of propagation and plant care as they nurture every tree by hand.

Whether cultivated on Vancouver Island or carefully imported from Japan, each plant is grown and prepared with the Canadian climate in mind, ensuring it arrives healthy, resilient, and ready to thrive.

What We Grow

Our collection ranges from graceful Japanese maples to distinctive dwarf conifers, selected for their beauty, structure, and year-round interest. We specialize in grafted and cutting-grown Japanese maples, including compact and dwarf varieties ideal for bonsai and container growing.

In addition to maples, we offer a curated selection of Japanese ornamentals and imported bonsai, chosen for both their character and their proven performance in Canadian gardens.
